DUI Detachment Makes Staggering Number Of Arrests

Troopers in the recently formed Nighttime Enforcement Emphasis Team (NEET) detachment are having unprecedented success in removing large numbers of impaired drivers from the roadways. Since the team was formed in November of last year, they have removed over 420 impaired drivers from the roadways. The NEET detachment operates in District 7 which is made up of Snohomish, Skagit, Island, and Whatcom Counties. The team operates primarily at night and is made up of four troopers and one sergeant.

“Impaired drivers are continuing to be one of the primary causes of fatal collisions in Washington State,” Captain James Lever stated. “Our agency continues to work toward target zero; zero traffic related fatalities or debilitating injury collisions by the year 2030. Removing impaired drivers is one of our most important and critical missions. Every impaired driver that is removed from the roadway is a possible fatal or debilitating injury collision that has been prevented.”

The NEET team is on pace to remove over 1,000 impaired drivers in its first year. “The impact that this team is having on public safety is simply outstanding,” Captain Lever reiterated. “We will continue to use all of our resources in the most effective and efficient manner possible to find, arrest, and remove impaired drivers from the roadways."
